In 2017, Maulana Syed Ahmad Hasan Memorial Welfare Society embarked on a mission to establish MAHM International School, driven by the desire to provide children from the Shia community with a modern education that would equip them to navigate the contemporary challenges and secure a respected position in India’s multicultural society. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, the school aimed to offer English-medium instruction of the highest standard, effectively competing with other esteemed educational institutions. In line with its vision, MAHM International School also recognized the importance of imparting religious education, including the Qur’an, Islamic history, beliefs, and instructions, alongside the core academic curriculum.

Located on the outskirts of the historically vibrant city of Varanasi, the school commenced its journey on a 12,240 square feet campus, providing co-educational schooling up to the 8th grade. While fostering holistic development, the institution facilitated student participation in a diverse range of competitions, sports, and artistic activities. However, beneath the surface of these endeavors, MAHM International School grappled with formidable challenges that posed obstacles to its growth and impact. One of the primary challenges was the perception among parents that enrolling their children in a school that only offered education up to the 8th grade would limit their future prospects. This concern affected school enrollment, as parents sought institutions that extended till the 10th grade. Consequently, MAHM International School faced the arduous task of dispelling the notion that a comprehensive education could not be provided within its current grade range.

One of the most pressing needs identified was the school’s aspiration to attain accreditation up to the tenth grade. This recognition was crucial, as it would not only expand the horizons for students but also instill confidence among parents about their children’s future prospects. Recognizing the significance of this milestone, Raabta embraced the challenge and worked hand in hand with MAHM International School to overcome this hurdle. Together, we envisioned a future where every student would have access to a comprehensive and holistic education. To support the school’s growth, Raabta embarked on a multifaceted approach. This expansion not only allowed the school to offer education up to the tenth grade but also paved the way for achieving the coveted accreditation. In our endeavor to embrace the digital era and prepare students for the future, Raabta envisioned a technologically advanced learning environment. We established a state-of-the-art computer lab, equipped with cutting-edge technology, opening doors to digital literacy and coding for young minds. The library became a sanctuary of knowledge, encouraging students to explore the realms of literature and imagination. Furthermore, the STEM lab became a hub of curiosity and discovery, where scientific concepts came alive through hands-on experimentation and visualization.

The Raabta intervention was not merely about infrastructure and capacity building; it was a beacon of hope, igniting a passion for learning and fostering a sense of purpose among students. Moreover, the financial indicators of the school experienced notable improvements over the intervention period, bringing them closer to the breakeven point. This positive trend demonstrates the successful management and strategic implementation of resources, leading to a more stable financial outlook for the school. In addition to the general outcomes observed in other schools, MAHM International School witnessed some unique changes. The intervention facilitated the establishment and enhancement of a state-of-the-art STEM lab, computer lab, and library, providing students with improved access and exposure to technological resources and academic materials. This advancement not only fostered a greater interest in STEM subjects among students but also created an environment conducive to hands-on learning and exploration.

MAHM International School came up with an ingenious idea of providing robotics classes to its students, further enhancing their exposure to cutting-edge technologies and fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
