The school faced challenges in terms of limited grade range, teacher quality, efficient processes, and resources. Raabta intervened with a comprehensive approach, addressing the need for accreditation up to the tenth grade by expanding the campus and providing capacity building for teachers and school leaders. Raabta also focused on infrastructure development, including the establishment of a computer lab, STEM lab, and library, creating an enriched learning environment. The intervention resulted in increased student enrollment, improved financial indicators, enhanced student interest and attendance, strengthened teacher-student relationships, and recognition for innovation. Moving forward, Raabta and MAHM School aim to introduce innovative programs in coding, entrepreneurship, and the arts, integrate spirituality into education, and continue investing in teacher professional development. Background, Context and Challenges!
In 2017, Maulana Syed Ahmad Hasan Memorial Welfare Society embarked on a mission to establish MAHM International School, driven by the desire to provide children from the Shia community with a modern education that would equip them to navigate the contemporary challenges and secure a respected position in India’s multicultural society. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, the school aimed to offer English-medium instruction of the highest standard, effectively competing with other esteemed educational institutions. In line with its vision, MAHM International School also recognized the importance of imparting religious education, including the Qur’an, Islamic history, beliefs, and instructions, alongside the core academic curriculum.
Located on the outskirts of the historically vibrant city of Varanasi, the school commenced its journey on a 12,240 square feet campus, providing co-educational schooling up to the 8th grade. While fostering holistic development, the institution facilitated student participation in a diverse range of competitions, sports, and artistic activities. However, beneath the surface of these endeavors, MAHM International School grappled with formidable challenges that posed obstacles to its growth and impact. One of the primary challenges was the perception among parents that enrolling their children in a school that only offered education up to the 8th grade would limit their future prospects. This concern affected school enrollment, as parents sought institutions that extended till the 10th grade. Consequently, MAHM International School faced the arduous task of dispelling the notion that a comprehensive education could not be provided within its current grade range.
